Choosing an Instagram DM tool: the 10 questions to ask before you sign up
There are many Instagram DM tools and they all make similar promises: automatic replies, AI, a showcase. The real differences are usually in details that do not show on the front page.
This article gives 10 questions you can ask any tool, including us, and a simple one-week trial. For the difference between a smart DM tool and an ordinary bot, see this guide too.
Why is comparing feature lists not enough?
Features look alike. What differs in practice is what a tool does with a real customer’s message, when it holds itself back and how much it takes from you at the end of the month.
So instead of “what features does it have?”, ask “what does it do in this situation?”. The questions below are for that.
Ten questions
1. Does it connect with Instagram’s official login?
The right answer is yes, and it does not ask for your Instagram password. Drop any tool that asks for the page password.
2. Who sends the messages?
Your own rules, or text the bot makes up? Know what reaches a customer without your knowledge.
3. Can a human step in at any moment?
You must be able to answer mid-conversation, and the automation must not jump into the middle of your reply.
4. How is the cost calculated?
A fixed subscription or pay-as-you-go? What happens when credit or the cap runs out? Is the AI cost separate or in the plan?
5. Does it understand Persian spelling variants?
ی/ي, ک/ك, Persian, Arabic and Latin digits, “قیمت” and “gheymat”. Without this, rules miss half the messages.
6. What does it do with data and tokens?
Tokens should be encrypted, and the AI provider and its terms should be stated clearly.
7. Is everything in one inbox?
DMs, story replies and comments. If one stays separate, something falls through.
8. Does it connect to my store?
Does it read your catalog from your site, or must you enter everything again? Where does payment happen?
9. Does it state its own limits?
A tool that names no limits either does not know them or does not want to say.
10. Can I try it without risk?
Start with low volume and ask what happens to your history if you leave.
Three red flags
It asks for the page password
A safe connection uses the official login, not a password handed over.
“100% with no human involvement”
A wrong message hurts a real customer. A promise of no supervision shows carelessness.
Unclear pricing
If you cannot guess next month’s cost, you will be surprised later.
Where does shagerdAi fit, and where not?
It fits: a small to medium shop, one admin, repeated messages with fixed answers, and someone who wants AI only to suggest while they confirm. The cost is 1,000 toman per message and per AI processing, with no mandatory subscription.
It does not fit: a shop sending thousands of outbound messages a month, because pay-as-you-go can cost more than a fixed subscription there. Also one user per account, at most three pages, and Instagram only. Test your own volume with the pricing page calculator and the article credit wallet or subscription.
A one-week trial, three things
Count your messages
See how many repeated questions you get in a week. If it is few, you may not need a tool at all.
Test with a second account
Message the page yourself and see exactly which reply arrives and which does not.
Record the real cost
At the end of the week multiply the real number by 4 and compare it with other plans.
Q&A
Which of the ten matters most?
For most shops questions 2 and 3: what goes to a customer without your knowledge, and whether you can always step in.
Is the cheaper tool always better?
No. Calculate the cost with your real message volume. The cheapest subscription becomes expensive if it promises something it does not keep.
Should I trust an AI tool?
With care if it sends any text to a customer without your approval. In shagerdAi the AI only suggests; [details on admin confirmation](/articles/ai-assist-admin-confirm).
Can I use several tools together?
You can, but two systems on one page may send two replies. Test with another account first.
